The time is NOW! By September 2016, the National Park Service will be selecting sites in the United States that prove to be worthy of World Heritage listing. This processes happens every ten years. Help us show the nation that Charleston is worthy of representing the United States on the World Heritage List!
The UNESCO World Heritage title is the highest cultural and historical designation a place or site can achieve…and we believe the Charleston Lowcountry is worthy. Charleston and the surrounding area possess an historical importance that deserves the world’s attention. A world heritage designation will provide the opportunity to not only honor the city’s African, Caribbean and European history, but also provide opportunities for global investment, sustainable urban planning and tourism management – all while keeping our local culture and quality of life at the forefront.
